EXTREME Couponing

When you decide to start couponing it can be disappointing at times.  You can't find coupons for the type of shampoo you use or the laundry soap you like or the kind of food you eat.  When I started couponing, this was me.  I would run out first thing Sunday morning to get my paper only to be disappointed in the lack of coupons for the brands I used.  After months of this I quit using coupons because I felt it was a waste of time and effort.  Several months later I decided to try again and it was then that I realized what being a hard core couponer meant.  You no longer only buy one certain brand of shampoo or only buy Tide laundry soap and you try a lot of new foods or eat a lot of the same food.  This is what it takes to live frugally!!!

I have built up a small stockpile in our hallway closet but I am outgrowing the space quickly.  How am I able to build my stockpile???  In my stockpile I have a variety of shampoo/condition brands such as Garnier Fructis, Tresemme, Head & Shoulders, Suave, etc.  I have a variety of toothpaste brands including Crest, Colgate and Aquafresh.  I have a variety of razors from disposables to cartridges to razor systems.  I have lots of varieties of different canned foods, chips, cereals, juice.  In order to save BIG money you have to be willing to use different brands of items because the brand you prefer may not always be on sale!!!

Rarely do I encounter a situation that I am forced to buy the store brand items.  With coupons you are almost always able to get name brand items cheaper than store brands with the right sale.  This is where building your stockpile comes in handy!!  If you are forced to run to the store for 1 or 2 items to complete a recipe you are more likely to have to pay double the price on a store brand item than if you had purchased the same name brand items during a sale and stocked up on them.

Taking advantage of Albertson's Twice The Value coupons, Round-Up Days, Ridley's Double Coupon Events, etc. is a great way to make those lower value coupons go twice as far!!

Ridley's Double Coupon Days
If you live near a Ridley's I would suggest following their page on Facebook, this is where they post their Double Coupon Days.  Their double coupon days work differently than Albertson's.  You take in any manufacturer coupon and they will double it up to $1 max.  Meaning if you have a $0.25 coupon they will double it to $0.50, if you have a $0.50 it double to $1, if you have a $0.75 it doubles to $1, $1 and over coupons do not double.  Ridley's does not have an official coupon policy.

Albertson's Twice The Value Coupons or TTV coupons
Albertson's Twice The Value Coupons come out periodically in  Sunday papers and are attached to the Albies ad.  There are 3 per ad and are typically good for only 3 days.  Twice the Value coupons automatically double the amount of any manufacturer coupon that is $1 or less.  So it would make a $1 coupon worth $2, a $0.50 coupon worth $1, a $0.25 worth $0.50.  You can only use 3 TTV coupons per transaction.  Most Albertson's will allow you to do 3 transactions in a row, enabling you to use 9 TTV coupons per visit.  You can view Albertson's coupon policy here: Albertson's Coupon Policy

Albertson's Round Up Events
Albertson's Round Up events are only done every once in a while, this is when they take any value coupon $0.25 and over and round it up to a $1!!! Coupons $0.24 or less are quadrupled.  Coupons $1 and over are not rounded up.

Walmart
The Garrity Walmart in Nampa will accept Albertson's TTV coupons.  They will also price match any competitors weekly ads as long as it is the same item and same size.
You can view Walmart's coupon policy here: Walmart Coupon Policy

K-Mart
Through the end of April K-Mart will be doubling coupons on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

To take advantage of the double coupon days there are some guidelines you must follow.

  • You must reach $25 in grocery and drugstore merchandise (before coupons)

  • Have all items scanned first to make sure you get to $25 before coupons
